Set on a hill overlooking Lake Garda and the surrounding countryside the Castle at Lonato boasts a long and interesting history (built 1000 AD), which lends so much colourful heritage and atmosphere to the weddings held within its grounds. As one of the few outdoor venues on Lake Garda where you can hold your civil ceremony, Lonato Castle really is a special location in terms of its versatility, size and breathtaking setting. This is truly a fairytale location that will ensure your wedding day is simply magical and unforgettable.
The castle offers you the unique possibility to hold both the ceremony and the reception within the grounds. This allows for an easy and seamless transition from the official ceremony onto the celebrations that follow. The extensive castle grounds are at your disposal for the whole day*.
The exclusivity of this location as well as the fact that you can have your reception party until the early hours of the morning are factors that make it a unique venue here on Lake Garda.
The diverse selection of ceremony settings include:
• La Rocchetta della Rocca
The ceremony takes place on an immaculate open lawn in an angle of the upper castle fortifications opposite the “Casa del Castellano/Capitano”. From here you can enjoy many enchanting views of the castle, the lake and its surroundings and it truly makes a beautiful backdrop for your wedding album. **
• Casa del Castellano/Capitano
This airy room has a lovely warm atmosphere and can hold up to 120 people seated. It is located within the castle grounds and its many windows offer stunning views through the castle battlements over the town of Lonato, Lake Garda and the surrounding countryside. It’s the perfect plan B should the weather be unkind and your ceremony cannot be held outside.
• The Castle Walls
This area offers stunning views over Lake Garda, the castle walls and the countryside behind. Up to 50 guests can be comfortably seated with plenty of standing space for more.
• Sala Lettura
This inviting and intimate room, although not a chapel, certainly has a similar ambiance and is ideal for an intimate wedding . It can host up to a maximum of 20 people (all seated) and is located at a short walk from the castle fortifications. There is a slight uphill walk of 150m to reach the gates of the castle. It is approximately 20m from the museum entrance.
One of the rooms in the “Casa dell Castellano/Capitano” can also be used as a Childrens Area should an entertainer be booked. We can help you find a suitable entertainer should this be a requirement of yours.
The castle is open to the public until 17.00 so for complete privacy for your special day it’s best to schedule your ceremony for that start time which is also a great time during the hotter months.
It is also possible to hold just the ceremony within the castle and then move on to another venue for the reception and the rest of the celebrations.
- Should the weather be uncharacteristically unkind there is a fixed marquee for the celebrations to continue on regardless.
- In case of bad weather the ceremony will take place in the “Casa del Castellano/Capitano” .
